Grade(s): Kindergarten 1st 2nd 3rd 4th
Subject(s): All Subjects
The grant, Creating a Servant-Leader Culture, would provide teachers and administration with leadership curriculum that will guide direct lessons for all students on proactivity, planning, prioritizing, celebrating the success of others, listening, collaboration, balance, and developing one’s personal talents and voice. By using the curriculum, The Leader in Me and The Seven Habits of Happy Kids, our administration and teachers will focus on and teach students how to implement a different leadership characteristic each month. In addition to this curriculum, each grade level will put their knowledge into practice by planning and participating in a service project.

likely to be engaged in learning when these artifacts are personally relevant and meaningful.”

Setting Classroom Instruction on Fire
The Ken and Dr. Diane Frost Grant
$2,500
Given to: Tiffany Farmer
Campus: Collins Intermediate
Grade(s): 5th
Subject(s): Math, Science, Language Arts
It's not a surprise that in this day and age classroom instruction is moving to be technologically centered. Many schools across the country are now at a 1:1 student/technology ratio.Having a class set of kindle fire tablets in my classroom would allow my instruction to evolve with the country and newest teaching practices. The students we have in our classrooms today are part of a technological generation. Technology is what they know and who they are. It only make sense that adding these beloved devices to classroom instruction would increase engagement and achievement in the classroom.

Making Music Matter
Given by the Navarro Council of the Arts in Honor of Jane Biltz
$1,745
Given to: Jennifer Nash
Campus: Collins Intermediate
Grade(s): 5th & 6th
Subject(s): Music
I would like to provide pitched and non-pitched instruments for students to have a stronger appreciation for music. Music changes the shape and power of the brain; furthermore learning to play an instrument improves cognitive skills and can even increase a person's IQ. Playing an instrument can improve day to day actions such as alertness, planning, and emotional perception.

The Eleanor Thornell English Language Arts Grant
$2,000
Given to: Heather McCutchen
Campus: Collins Intermedaite

Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.
–Maya Angelou

Robotics Club
$1,500
Given to: Heather McCutchen
Campus: Collins Intermediate
Grade(s): 5th & 6th
Subject(s): Science, Technology
Learning how to code and manipulate robots will help students to gain experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. These career fields are growing with the expanding technology fields and providing students experience with the skills needed to excel in these fields early in life will better prepare them when they enter the workforce.

Enhancing ESL Student Reading Skills
The Eleanor Thornell English Language Arts Grant
$815.00
Given to: Holly Scoggins
Campus: CMS
Grade: 5th
Subject(s): English Language Art and Reading
With a student body of 910, of which 36% are Limited English Proficient, an English language arts and reading teacher looked at creating new pathways to improve literacy among the ESL learners. Enhancing ESL Student Reading Skills will present them with an ideal opportunity to accomplish this goal. This project seeks to broaden learning past the classroom by providing 5th grade ELAR teachers multiple copies of Spanish editions novels which are read in class. These are to be taken home by ESL students so both students and their families have greater access to Spanish edition novels, enabling both parent and student to partake in the experience at home. Novels were identified by the Scope and Sequence developed by the English department for the current year.

Building STEAM in the Library
$2,280
Given to: Heather McCutchen
Campus: Collins Intermediate
Grade(s): 5th & 6th
Subject(s): Science, Technology, Mathematics, ELA
“Every child has the right to invent, tinker, create, innovate, make, and do.”
--Laura Fleming, Library Media Specialist
This grant would help to provide students with the opportunity to learn, build, and create in a hands-on way. Students learn best by exploring and manipulating real objects. The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) career fields are growing and by giving students the opportunity to explore these disciplines early in life we excite and prepare them for careers in these fields.

Tuesday Book Club
Sponsored by Glenn & Pat Sodd
$575
Given To: Tammy Casaday
Campus: Carroll
Grade(s): 3rd
Subject(s): ELAR
I would like to start a Tuesday Book Club for parents and students to come together for one hour each week and just enjoy reading. I believe if we can get our parents involved in an enjoyable social opportunity to read with their children, that we can promote family literacy. I would like our parents to have the opportunity to be a part of the school and to become part of a learning community. I would like to have many different types of books for us to read and talk about. I would like to have some Spanish versions for our Hispanic parents. The students would be reading in English. We would all have a time to share and talk about the novels.
